Knowledge Transfer 2.0, New Game – New Rules…

Knowledge Transfer – specifically the transfer of innovations and intellectual property from universities to businesses, is a changed game. In many significant ways the context in which we work has changed; the skills and tools required have changed; and modern innovation practice has changed.

As experienced knowledge transfer and commercialisation professionals, with decades of experience in business and in running KTOs in many of the UK’s largest research universities, we believe that knowledge transfer requires a more effective model. We are shaping this new model, and it's showing results.   In developing this new approach we have sought to integrate relevant theory and practice which draws on current innovation theory; modern social media approaches and tools, and current thinking on market behaviour and motivation, to use this to develop a more effective model of Knowledge Transfer. We have proved that this model is capable of delivering more with less.

This is not a theoretical proposition: behind this proposition are a number of years of practice and debate, and more, significantly, evidence of real return on investment, most recently at the University of Leeds. We are now helping a number of other universities implement this KT2.0 approach, and also working with JISC InfoNet to create a online InfoKit and best practice manual to assist in its adoption.  If you are interested in this development there is a (closed) discussion group on the Global Innovation Network.  Those interested in reviewing and commenting are welcome to request entry to the group.
